Marillyn, you will have to interpret your poems to me as I am not an educated man....they seem way to deep for me and that is my honest opinion......
If you were to use the words of God in your poems I would have been able to "see" what you are saying, but as it is I am in the dark......sorry,Star here is something I could relate to. Jesus, the Master of my soul, set out for me a goal. In searching I found His way, and all the time it was bright as day. But clouds and trees were in my eyes, I never looked up towards the skys. His goal was in the stars, but I was looking down through the bars. I was locked within my self you see, The only one that could open my eyes was me. So I looked up one fine day, fell on my knees and began to pray, He heard me and said these words, Don't look down, look at the birds. In them lie the goal of Life, They evvy not, nor do they strife. They pick up one day at a time, and they like a poem with rhyme, like mine |

Hi cmpm,
I'm anxious to hear your comments about it, too. Hi Starman, No need to apologize. Even the "easy reading" ones are packed. |

Got the book today Marilyn. Got home a bit ago and read some of it. Love it! And it is loaded with many gifts.
Thank You. I'll have to read it over and over to get more of it and 'get "it" '. Before I can respond to anything specifically, but it's a wonderful heart and work. |

Still trying to get some of the others. Each time I read them I get a bit more. Cool. |

Hi cmpm,
Sorry, my server has been down. I'm glad you found some you like. I'd be interested in hearing which one is your favorite and which one is your least favorite. A couple of the ones on Love were inspired by photographs--"Fractured Memories" and "Robe of the Rising Sun". "Robe of the Rising Sun" won an art award and is in the state art museum. The photographer and I are in the process of doing a book together--a poem per photograph. I had my first poetry reading today. It was a practice run. I've got two next month--one at a Baptist church and one at a Catholic church. There'll probably be pictures of the readings on the website when it goes up. Each time I read them I get a bit more. I take that as a major compliment! Thank youl |

Well..........hmm.....
I'm quite sure you all will see a part of yourselves in this book. We all influenced it in one way or another, as well as, and moreso, the deep inspiration in the heart the writer. |

I got your book and am
more than half way through. Can't move quickly through it. Have to read each a few times and savour the meaning. Can't pick a favourite either (though so far, Word Tints and Identity, appeals to my nostalgic bent, and are on top of my list! Glory and Honour is a close second.). They are all so beautifully written. I love poetry that paints pictures and yours has the clarity of a snapshot. Pictures of your soul and insight. Easy to identify with and apply to one's own situation and marvel at the beauty in expression. Love the ghazal Heart Phases. You make it seem so fluid and an easy style to handle, when I know from experience it is not. No jangling, forced rhymes. And this is so in the others where you've used rhyming verse. I must say you are very fortunate in the reviewers for your book. Barbara Hawkins is right in saying that readers will return again and again to your book and glean new inspiration. Mills review was a poem in itself. So proud you must be of such a testimonial! But Dr. Reeder's recommendation expresses what I personally feel: that these are good to pick up and read on a 'down day'. They are not preachy, but speak as from experience and leave one feeling inspired to question and move forward. Congratulations on a beautiful, thought-provoking collection. |

Hi AtRest! Good to see you!
I hope you enjoy the book. And, I look forward to hearing your thoughts about it. I hope you'll share your thoughts about it. (Watch for a lot of "play on words".) I posted an earlier thread about the book which includes a sample poem. I'll find it and stick it here, too. |

Do you really think I would have such a site and not mention it? If so, why? Or, was that just a rhetorical question to repost your site and/or generosity? If so, I'd rather you just repeat such information in a straightforward manner. But, to answer your question, no, I do not have a site for my poems. And, yes, God gives us gifts to share. Having contributed (free) articles to small newspapers and written (paid) articles for larger, I recognize that my poetry is unsuitable for a newspaper audience. It is not just "warm, fuzzy thoughts" in rhyming couplets. (It's not easy reading, but more of "study reading".) I use a lot of "play on words" and parallel lines of thought. I do not expect the book to be appreciated by the general public. Since I have yet to have a speaking engagement where anyone brought a laptop, I prefer the hard copy. (Actually, I prefer a hard copy, anyway.) Frankly, I wanted more than marginal note space, but having alternate blank pages increased the cost too much.) |
